Al-Fajr (The Dawn)
Translation
Verses 1-30
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
وَالْفَجْرِ (1)
By the dawn.
[Al Quran ; 89:1]
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ (2)
And (by) ten nights.
[Al Quran ; 89:2]
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ (3)
And (by) the even and the odd (prayer).
[Al Quran ; 89:3]
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ (4)
And (by) the night when it passes.
[Al Quran ; 89:4]
هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ (5)
Is there in that an oath for one who possesses perception?
[Al Quran ; 89:5]
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ (6)
Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Aad?
[Al Quran ; 89:6]
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ (7)
Iram which has the pillars.
[Al Quran ; 89:7]
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ (8)
The likes of whom had never been created in the cities.
[Al Quran ; 89:8]
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ (9)
And Thamud who carved the rocks in the valley.
[Al Quran ; 89:9]
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ (10)
And Firon, the possessor of the stakes.
[Al Quran ; 89:10]
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ (11)
Who perpetrated in the cities.
[Al Quran ; 89:11]
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ (12)
And increased therein mischief.
[Al Quran ; 89:12]
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ (13)
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of torture.
[Al Quran ; 89:13]
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ (14)
Indeed, your Lord is always observing.
[Al Quran ; 89:14]
فَأَمَّا الْإِنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ (15)
And as for the human, when his Lord tries him and thus honours and favours him, he says: My Lord has honoured me.
[Al Quran ; 89:15]
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ (16)
But as for when He tries him and thus restricts upon him his provision, he says: My Lord has humiliated me.
[Al Quran ; 89:16]
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ (17)
Rather, you do not honour the orphan.
[Al Quran ; 89:17]
وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ (18)
And you do not encourage one another on feeding the poor.
[Al Quran ; 89:18]
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَمًّا (19)
And you eat inheritance, eating (it) all together.
[Al Quran ; 89:19]
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا (20)
And you love wealth with immense love.
[Al Quran ; 89:20]
كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا (21)
No; when the earth is pounded with pounding after pounding.
[Al Quran ; 89:21]
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا (22)
And your Lord has come, and the angels in rows after rows.
[Al Quran ; 89:22]
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ (23)
And hell is brought on that day. On that day, the human will remember, and how to him will be the remembrance?
[Al Quran ; 89:23]
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي (24)
He will say: O, I wish I had put forth (some good) for my life.
[Al Quran ; 89:24]
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ (25)
So on that day, none will castigate as His torture.
[Al Quran ; 89:25]
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ (26)
And none will bind as His binding.
[Al Quran ; 89:26]
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ (27)
O assured soul.
[Al Quran ; 89:27]
ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً (28)
Return to your Lord, pleased, satisfied.
[Al Quran ; 89:28]
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي (29)
And enter among My servants.
[Al Quran ; 89:29]
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي (30)
And enter My garden.
[Al Quran ; 89:30]
